The 2013 Miss Universe Competition has come and gone, naming the successor to 2012’s reigning champ Olivia Culpo in Moscow, Russia on Saturday (Nov. 9). So, who took the crown?
None other than Miss Venezuela, Gabriela Isler. The 25-year-old beauty came out on top, besting runner-up Miss Spain, Patricia Rodrigues, and fan-favorite Miss Philippines, Ariella Arida, who placed fourth.
Isler’s answer to judge Steven Tyler‘s question in the final round (What is your biggest fear and how do you plan to overcome it?) was a bit shaky, as she never directly answered, but her performance in the evening wear competition was stellar. Her gorgeous gown, one of only two to have sleeves, was sleek, silver and something she had a hand in designing, which likely scored her extra points.
According to her bio on the Miss Universe website, Isler began taking flamenco lessons as a child, but currently works as a talent on the Venevision TV Network. She has a niece and “considers herself a second mother to the child.” She “values being at home” above anything else and believes motherhood to be “the hardest profession in life.”
