MTV recently teased some big news about the 2013 VMAs and now the cat is out of the bag. The Video Music Awards are moving back to the place they were born — New York.
After a few years in Los Angeles, the 2013 VMAs will be held live Aug. 25 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The AEG-owned arena, which opened in 2012 with an eight-night Jay-Z residency, is now home to Jay’s NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets. Ready to place bets on a special appearance by Jay-Z at this year’s VMAs?
MTV promised to drop hints about the big news via their Instagram account, and they delivered on the deal, posting a photographic travel diary of the VMA moon man as he made his way from LAX to JFK airport, then hopped along New York City landmarks to land at Barclays.
2013 will mark 30 years of VMAs for MTV. It’s an awards show that has created many legendary moments in pop culture history — from Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley‘s televised kiss to Britney Spears dancing with a python or, along with Christina Aguilera, making out with Madonna. So, what can MTV do to top itself at 30 years? Looks like we’ll find out in August.
