Sundays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT starting this fall
Incorporating both star John Mulaney’s stand-up routine and a multi-camera sitcom style, FOX boss Kevin Reilly was quick to call “Mulaney” “the making of a ‘Seinfeld’ for a new generation.” The fictional Mulaney is a hard-working comedian who gets a big break when a comedy legend, Lou Cannon (Martin Short), hires him as a writer. Added to the mix are Mulaney’s friends, Jane (Nasim Pedrad), Motif (Seaton Smith) and Andre (Zack Pearlman). When Mulaney needs to escape from his own life’s chaos, he hangs out with a neighbor, Oscar (Elliott Gould).
“Mulaney” joins “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and the FOX animated comedies during the Sunday-night lineup.
The other two comedies picked up at FOX are scheduled for midseason:
Four relationship-phobic 30-somethings are thrown together to live in a Queens, New York townhouse. High-strung dental hygienist Caryn Goldfarb (Becki Newton) deals with a “crazed, ultra-romantic 13-year-old barricaded inside the control room of her brain.” Stosh Lewandoski (Zachary Knighton) is a serial seducer who loses his Wall Street job for going after the boss’ fiancee. Eric Lewandoski (Nate Torrence) is Stosh’s cousin who hasn’t grown up and works as a tollbooth collector. Zara Sandhu (Meera Khumbhani) is a mysterious painter who can only live in the moment.
‘The Last Man on Earth’
Will Forte stars (and writes/produces) as Phil Miller, who may literally be the last man on Earth. He travels around an empty country in his RV following an unlikely event in 2022. Described as “a comedy about a man trying to make lemonade out of the most soul-crushing lemon there is,” Phil’s hope is that he will run across another survivor — hopefully a woman.
