The “Black Swan” star shows off some serious acting chops in the psychological thriller, but Natalie’s sense of humor is never far off. We’ve already seen her goof off on “Saturday Night Live” and she can be seen alongside Ashton Kutcher in the rom-com “No Strings Attached” come January, but with the start of her own production company (called Handsomecharlie Films) Natalie hopes to develop more of “The Hangover” type comedies — but for the ladies.
“We’re very into female comedies; there just aren’t enough,” she says. “We’re trying to go with that guy-movie tone … but with women — who are generally not allowed to be beautiful and funny, and certainly not vulgar.”
Vulgarity being something Natalie is definitely not shy about.
“There’s a difference between being in a bra and underpants as an object on a men’s-magazine cover and playing yourself — a woman with desires and needs who loves and laughs with her friends — in a bra and underpants,” she explains.
The only way to change this dynamic in the film industry, is to find more female filmmakers. “Most movies are made by men, it’s totally natural that they’re going to present their world view,” the actress states. “We’re trying to find more women who are writers and directors who are expressing their worldview.”
Natalie developed Handsomecharlie Films along with partner, Annette Savitch. The two have already produced a comedy called “Hesher,” which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and are currently working on a girl pot comedy to be titled “Best Buds.”
We are psyched to see what sort of gems Natalie and Handsomecharlie have in store for us. How about you? Can a female Judd Apatow garner the same level of success?
