On Saturday (June 25), when Neil Patrick Harris tweeted to say he and boyfriend David Burtka had been “engaged for five years” and were “just waiting for an available date,” well everyone sort of assumed he was declaring his intention to marry in the near future since New York just passed a law legalizing same-sex marriage.
Not so fast.
On Monday (June 27), Harris again took to Twitter to debunk any reports that he and Burtka plan to marry any time soon:
Dear media: Just because David and I will soon be able to marry in NY, doesn’t mean we are actively planning a wedding. Cart before horse.
Okay. Well, we like very long engagements. And we totally get wanting to take one’s time and not rush into anything.
Just keep us posted, NPH.
