Neil Patrick Harris is a staple as the host of the Tonys, but now he could earn the right to win at the awards show as well. The actor will be returning to Broadway in 2014 in a production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
Producers on the project announced Harris’ leading role on June 17. This will be the first Broadway staging of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” The show was first performed in 1997 off-Broadway and later was turned into a movie by co-creator John Cameron Mitchell.
“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is expected to open in Spring 2014, The New York Times reports. Harris says in a statement, “I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig’s heels. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can’t wait to begin the journey.”
Harris last appeared on Broadway in a 2004 revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins.”
