Baz Luhrman’s upcoming “The Great Gatsby” adaptation may be set in the roaring 20s, but moviegoers shouldn’t expect any demure jazz or Louis Armstrong favorites to set the tone. In this brand new “Gatsby” trailer, only the most current artists are featured — from Beyonc and Andr 3000 and Florence and the Machine.
The opening notes of the trailer offer the first listen to Beyonc and Andr covering Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black.” That’s followed by Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” followed by Florence’s “Over the Love,” written specifically for “Gatsby.”
The trailers hold no plot surprises for those of us who are familiar with the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel (and who isn’t?) but Luhrman’s trademark razzle-dazzle spectacle is still worth a second and third viewing. We expected something epic, and it looks like he’s about to deliver. If you don’t get chills looking at that green light, it’s possible your high school English teacher failed you.
The highly anticipated film hits theaters May 10. Don’t miss it.
