Starz has released a brand new photo from “Outlander,” its new drama series based on the epic novel series by Diana Gabaldon. In the picture, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) is being whipped by “Black” Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), a captain in the English regiment.
During the show’s TCA press tour panel Friday (Jan. 10), series creator Ron Moore, Gabaldon and stars Heughan and Caitriona Balfe thanked fans for their immense support. Below are a few other fun tidbits from the presentation.
Gabaldon on whether the huge fanbase has affected her writing: “Absolutely not. I am creating this and with luck, they’ll like it. … If people like it, I’m happy, but I’m never going to write something because I think someone else will like it.”
Moore on whether the show will be one book per season: “We’re not locked into that because some books are bigger than other books. … [but] I hope I have such problems.”
Gabaldon on her involvement in the series: “I don’t actually write scripts or direct or anything. I will get two lines in one scene as a cameo, and that’s the extent of my actual personal involvement. … They ask my opinion every now and again, though they aren’t obliged to accept it.”
Heughan on wearing a kilt: “We use the traditional kilt, it’s a long bit of
cloth. Ours are about 70 feet long. They’re basically used as a
tool. The Highlanders would use them to keep themselves warm, they would
use them as sleeping bag, you can use them as camouflage, they had a
variety of uses. It took a long time to get used to it, but it’s a real
joy to work in.”
Gabaldon on her writing: “People always say to me, ‘You write such strong women.’ Well, I don’t like stupid ones — why would I write about them?”
“Outlander” premieres in summer 2014 on Starz.
