Ramsey gained national fame after he helped Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus break out of neighbor Ariel Castro‘s house in Cleveland on May 6. It soon became apparent that the women had been held there for years against their will.
How does McDonald’s figure into all of this? Ramsey was apparently eating some McDonald’s food at his moment of heroism. When posted online, Ramsey’s interview — in which he mentions the restaurant — became a viral sensation.
This is hardly the first time that McDonald’s has paid attention to the free publicity and positive news Ramsay has brought them. The day after the kidnapped women were freed, the McDonald’s corporate Twitter feed posted the following:
“We salute the courage of Ohio kidnap victims & respect their privacy. Way to go Charles Ramsey- we’ll be in touch.”
McDonald’s didn’t lie about that. While several local McDonald’s franchise owners have already offered Ramsey free food, this news confirms that the company as a whole is ready and willing to honor a hero willing to put down a Big Mac. Now, Charles Ramsey will have all the Big Macs he could want.
