Oprah Winfrey is teaming up with “The Butler” director Lee Daniels in an exciting new role. The philanthropist and television icon will play the grandmother of Richard Pryor in Daniels’ upcoming biopic about the comedian.
Entertainment Tonight broke the news that Winfrey will play Marie Carter, the grandmother of Pryor who ran a prostitution house. Pryor, who died in 2005, started living with Carter when his mother Gertrude, who also practiced prostitution, walked out on the family when he was 10.
Playing the role of Pryor is actor Mike Epps. Winfrey posted to her Instagram account, “[Daniels], [Epps] , and me just finished a great 1st read session. #RichardPryorMovie.”
