One of the inmates on “Orange Is the New Black” is getting sprung early next season — but that’s not necessarily good news.
Laura Prepon will return for a handful of episodes in the Netflix series’ second season, but she won’t be a series regular after opting not to sign a contract for the full season, BuzzFeed reports. Her character, Alex, will stick around long enough to wrap up her story.
Considering it was Alex essentially landed lead character Piper (Taylor Schilling) in prison, though, that ending is coming a little earlier than expected. On the plus side, the show will likely leave open the chance for Prepon to return in the future.
“Orange Is the New Black” debuted with far less advance hype than its fellow Netflix originals “House of Cards” and “Arrested Development,” but reviews and word of mouth on the show have been stellar. Netflix picked up a second season before the first one debuted in July.
Here is the obligatory sentence noting that Netflix doesn’t release its viewership numbers, so we can’t tell you just how many people have seen “Orange Is the New Black.”
