Just like Anne Hathaway winning Best Supporting Actress at the 85th Academy Awards, Adele was a shoe-in for Best Original Song. She still seemed surprised to win when she took the stage alongside Paul Epworth, though.
“Thank you so much. This is amazing,” she said, coming close to tears as she listed off the many people she had to thank. “And my man, I love you, baby.”
Adele left time for Epworth to give his thanks as well, but she couldn’t resist tossing in a nod to all the other prestigious actors, directors and even songwriters in the Dolby Theatre there with them. “You’re all amazing as well,” she said as a farewell.
Also nominated for Best Song were J. Ralph for “Before My Time” from “Chasing Ice,” Walter Murphy and Seth MacFarlane for “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from “Ted,” Mychael Danna and Bombay Jayashri from “Life of Pi” and Claude-Michel Schonberg, Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil for “Suddenly” from “Les Miserables.” “Skyfall” also won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing. This is Adele’s first Oscar nomination.
