If we were in charge of NBC’s awards season FYC campaigns, we would be backing “Parenthood” star Monica Potter all the way. (And if we were in charge of awards season, she would win everything, including all the categories just for male film stars, because if we were in charge we’d want to shake things up a bit, okay?)
As ever-harried mother Kristina Braverman, the underrated actress manages to make even the smallest moments feel powerful. We laugh with her, and oh boy, do we cry with her.
In this exclusive first look clip from Tuesday’s (Nov. 29) episode, Kristina leaves newborn baby Nora in the hands of a babysitter for the first time. Granted, that babysitter is Nora’s loving aunt Sarah (Lauren Graham), which helps take the edge off a bit, but we love the way that Potter conveys just how conflicted Kristina is — torn between the baby and a life where her bubblegum pink nail polish will be seen. By adults.
It’s a bit of an even trade, though. Sarah’s “baby” is in Kristina’s care for the day as well, as Kristina has offered Amber (Mae Whitman) a leg up out of her debt problems with an important job opportunity.
This clip truly embodies everything we love about “Parenthood” — which is rapidly becoming the best part of our week. It’s got a little bit of heartbreak, plenty of laughter, true family camaraderie, and, of course, the latest in infant-sized denim jackets.
Watch tomorrow night at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
