“Parks and Recreation” will bring us not just one, but two more of the women in Ron Swanson’s life this fall. And yes, the latest one is also named Tammy.
Paula Pell, a long-time “Saturday Night Live” writer and sometime actress (she’s played Scott Adsit’s wife on “30 Rock” several times), will guest-star as the ur-Tammy in an early episode this season. We’re also meeting Ron’s (Nick Offerman) first wife Tammy (Patricia Clarkson) in the season’s second episode and will likely get a return appearance by Tammy 2 (Megan Mullally) as well.
So what qualities should Ma Swanson possess? (Aside from a good amount of time in the makeup chair; Pell and Offerman are pretty close in age in real life.)
It sounds as if “Parks and Rec” is taking the apple-doesn’t-fall-far-from-the-tree approach, based on a character description from TV Guide. That means Ron has come by his love of breakfast food, woodworking and distaste for government honestly, and not in Alex P. Keaton-esque reaction to being raised by hippies.
What we’re really dying to see, though, is how Mrs. Swanson raised a son whose taste in women runs toward the, shall we say, dangerous. Is she as unpredictable as Tammy 2? As frightening as Tammy 1 has been implied to be? Seriously — just what did she do to her son to make him the way he is with women? Any psychologists out there want to weigh in?
“Parks and Recreation” premieres Thursday, Sept. 22 on NBC.
