In an interview with Flavorwire tied to his new film, “A.C.O.D.,” Scott says there’s been no progress that he knows of on turning the show into a film — and also isn’t sure it’s even a good idea.
“I mean, I don’t know if it ever was anywhere, but I don’t know if it’s a great idea to make movies from television shows, personally,” he tells the site. “Has there ever been a good one?”
“‘MacGruber,’” “A.C.O.D.” director Stu Zicherman offers.
“I think things that are in a 22-25 minute format work really well in that format for a reason,” Scott continues, “and when you apply a three-act, 90-minute structure to it, sometimes it kind of takes the air out of the tire a little bit.”
There have been good movies based on TV shows — “The Simpsons Movie,” “The Fugitive” and the “Star Trek” franchise come to mind. But for every one of those, there’s at least one “Lost in Space” or “Dark Shadows,” so Scott isn’t entirely off base.
That’s cold comfort to “Party Down” die-hards, but hey, at least Kristen Bell is guest-starring with Scott on “Parks and Recreation” now.
