When viewers tuned into WWE’s “Monday Night RAW” on March 11, they were met with a touching tribute to the late William Moody, who portrayed the role of Paul Bearer, for the company, managing The Undertaker. The mood quickly changed, when bad guy CM Punk openly mocked Moody’s death.
While many fans weren’t happy with how the tribute was handled, it turns out Moody’s family was. According to TMZ, the family was approached by WWE before the stunt, to get their consent to follow through with the idea. Michael Moody, William’s son, says the family was all for it. “We felt that dad would have wanted us at ‘RAW’ last week and agreed to the angle… We knew Dad wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”
The night ended when CM Punk attacked a wrestler named Kane, who was Bearer’s storyline son. He repeatedly beat Kane with the urn Bearer carried to the ring on a nightly basis. The events were used to promote a bout between CM Punk and The Undertaker at April’s Wrestlemania XXIX.
