Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan has a Secret Service code name, which he chose himself (that is not unusual). GQ reveals it to be none other than … Bowhunter. Ryan is an avid deer hunter, so the nickname makes sense.
The tradition is that protectees and their families have alliterative code names, so Ryan’s wife Janna’s Secret Service code name is “Buttercup.” Which is rather awesome and makes us think of “The Princess Bride.” There is no word yet on whether their children have code names.
So Bowhunter joins Javelin on the 2012 campaign trail. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney chose “Javelin” earlier this year, which is perhaps a nod to a car once made by his father’s company.
It doesn’t appear that Ann Romney’s code name has been reported. We wonder what she chose — Juniper? Jasmine? Or maybe she went tough, with something like “Jacknife.”
In case you had never heard, President Obama is “Renegade,” though we suspect the Secret Service doesn’t use that much — presidents are typically referred to as POTUS by the Secret Service. Michelle, Sasha and Malia are also Rs — Renaissance, Rosebud and Radiance, respectively.
And hey, at least nobody is “Flamingo,” right CJ?
