Showtime will officially unveil its creepy new drama series “Penny Dreadful” on May 11. You don’t necessarily have to wait that long, though, to watch the series premiere.
The cable channel is offering free views of the show, which stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett and Timothy Dalton, online and on demand in advance of the on-air premiere. You can watch it on the Showtime site and YouTube, on demand from a number of providers and on the Showtime Anytime app for your phone or tablet.
“Penny Dreadful” brings some of 19th century literature’s most famous characters, including Victor Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and characters from Bram Stoker’s novel “Dracula,” into contact with the denizens of Victorian London. Green plays Vanessa Ives, a clairvoyant and medium who carries a lot of (literal?) inner demons. Hartnett is Ethan Chandler, an American performer in a Wild West show enlisted by Sir Malcolm Murray (Dalton) on a “personal quest.”
The show also stars Billie Piper (“Doctor Who,” “Secret Diary of a Call Girl”), Reeve Carney, Danny Sapani and Harry Treadaway. John Logan (“Skyfall,” “Gladiator”) created “Penny Dreadful,” which premieres at 10 p.m. ET/PT Sunday, May 11 on Showtime.
