“The Voice” is going to see some more changes next season in the revolving door of who occupies the popular singing competition show’s revolving coaches’ chairs. For Season 7, Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani are stepping in for Usher and Shakira, and Monday (May 5), Pharrell and Gwen tell “Today” that they could not be more excited and talk about their personal style of coaching.
“I’m trying to like pinch myself — is this really happening?” marvels Stefani.
“It’s magical,” adds Williams. “It’s serendipitous. We’ve always had a special connection and it was always through music that we recognized each other’s admiration and the depths. There is such potential.
“NBC … they are allowing me a platform to speak to millions of people at night,” Williams continues. “To say to them what I’m going to say to a contestant — my advice is always going to have a consistent thread of ‘Be you.’ … You’ll see what Gwen and I do, we’re going to take a slightly different approach. All we’re gonna do is hold up the mirror and show people how rad they are already.”
Tune in to watch Pharrell and Gwen perform a special duet live on “The Voice” Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
