Plutarch is the Head Gamemaker — in charge of planning the Hunger Games — and plays a fairly major role in “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” the final book in author Suzanne Collins‘ trilogy. Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is initially wary of him, but the two eventually become allies.
Hoffman’s name has long been attached to “Catching Fire,” but a deal wasn’t done until now. He’ll add the big franchise to a list of credits that includes “Moneyball,” “Doubt,” “Mission: Impossible III” and “Capote,” the movie for which he won a best actor Oscar. He’ll next be seen in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master,” which opens in October, and the indie film “A Late Quartet.”
With Hoffman locked in and Jena Malone in consideration to play Johanna Mason, “Catching Fire” now has to narrow down its list of hopefuls for the key role of Finnick Odair. The movie is due for release in November 2013.
