It has been a rough week for USA’s marginally rated series. “Political Animals” is the latest of the cable channel’s shows to get the ax, following the cancellations of freshman series “Common Law” and second-year show “Fairly Legal.”
“Political Animals” is a somewhat different, uh, animal than the other two shows in that it was billed as a miniseries. Still, its finale was open-ended enough to allow for the possibility of a second season. That’s not happening now.
“We are proud of ‘Political Animals,’ our miniseries that attracted critical acclaim and impacted the cultural conversation this summer. It was a pleasure to work with [executive producers] Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark and a powerful cast led by Sigourney Weaver,” USA says in a statement. “We look forward to collaborating again with these immensely talented creatives.”
TVLine first reported the news.
The miniseries averaged about 2.1 million viewers in the same-day Nielsens, rising to 3.2 million in Live +7 ratings.
