Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new Lily Munster: Portia de Rossi. The “Arrested Development” actress has signed on to play the iconic TV character in NBC’s reboot of “The Munsters.” Jerry O’Connell plays her TV husband Herman in “Mockingbird Lane.”
Mariana Klaveno was originally cast in the role, but due to some complicated contractual issues with her ABC pilot “Devious Maids” — which still could get picked up by Lifetime despite the fact that ABC passed — she had to drop out, Deadline reports.
De Rossi joins O’Connell as Herman, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Charity Wakefield as Marilyn and Mason Cook as Eddie.
The show comes from “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller, and will hopefully make the midseason schedule on NBC.
What do you think of de Rossi as the new Lily Munster? (Remember, there’s a little thing called hair dye that can come in handy on occasion.)
