In a recent interview with Sway on MTV, President Obama was asked by Sway (who has a daughter of his own) what worries him more — his 14-year-old daughter Malia getting a driver’s license, going out on a date, or being on Facebook? The answer from the president might surprise you, before he explains his reasoning.
The president says, “I’d worry about Facebook right now. I know the folks at Facebook have — obviously they’ve revolutionized social networks. But Malia, because she’s well known, I’m very keen on her protecting her privacy. She can make her own decisions, obviously, later as she gets older. But right now, even just for security reasons, she doesn’t have a Facebook page.”
“Dates? That’s fine, ’cause she’s got Secret Service protection, so … I’m not too worried,” the president laughs.
“The one thing I always tells my daughters, and hopefully I’m serving as a good example of this, is I want them to be with men who respect them, boys who respect them and value them and understand their worth. If the boys are kind to them, then they’ll be OK. They’re competent young women. Driver’s license, that always worries a parent. But sooner or later they gotta leave the nest, so we’ll have to figure out how she gets the lessons.”
