“Pretty Little Liars” is marking its 100th episode with the return of a couple familiar faces in Caleb Rivers and Jenna Marshall. Actor Tyler Blackburn tells Zap2it what we can expect from Caleb’s “dark” return.
Zap2it: What is it like for Caleb when he returns? What is it like for Hanna?
Tyler Blackburn: It’s going to be jarring for Hanna when he comes back, but you eventually learn why he’s back and what has gone on in Ravenswood. Not right away, it takes a little time for him to open up about what transpired in Ravenswood. … Caleb does get to a point where he opens up to somebody on the show
about what went down in Ravenswood. He opens up a little bit to someone
[other than Hanna].
What is the Hanna-Caleb relationship like now?
They have so many similarities and they have such a past that there will always be a love there, but it’s different now. He’s been gone for a while and she’s started to create a new relationship with Travis. I think the viewers will enjoy their chemistry because whether or not they’re making out, they still have chemistry.
How does Caleb feel about Travis, the new man in Hanna’s life?
He’s a little upset, obviously. He’s jealous. He loves Hanna and there’s so much darkness when he comes back to Rosewood and he hopes Hanna can be that light, but he has to deal with it because he does want her to be happy and he does think Travis is a really good guy. Caleb figures if she can’t be with me, he’s a good guy to be with.
With Alison back in Rosewood, Hanna has been struggling with a bit of an identity crisis lately. Will Caleb’s return help her figure out who she is?
No, actually. It’s the opposite. He’s in such a self-destructive place that it kind of feeds into her identity crisis. He just lets her do whatever she wants, dress however she wants and they kind of go to some pretty dark places together.
In photos released from the episode, it shows the whole gang together watching something on TV. Can you tell us what it is?
We’re watching MSNBC. [laughs] No, I’m kidding. We’re actually watching Oprah. [laughs] No, I can’t tell you. It’s something that advances the story, it’s a big deal for everybody.
We’ve spoken with Marlene King about the possibility of a “Ravenswood” episode in the latter half of Season 5. Do you think the curse could possibly be resolved within the “Pretty Little Liars” universe?
Yeah, I think there’s a possibility for that. And I think it would be great if we had some of the [“Ravenswood”] cast on the show, I would like that.
“Pretty Little Liars” 100th episode airs Tuesday, June 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
