Food Network will expand its huge roster of cooking-competition shows by one when the new year arrives.
The channel has set a premiere date for “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off,” which will have network stars Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri coaching eight celebs in a six-episode culinary battle for charity. The series debuts at 9 p.m. ET New Year’s Day.
The celebs competing are pop singer/reality-TV star Aaron Carter, sportscaster and former Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders, actors Lou Diamond Phillips and Cheech Marin, *NSync member/actor/TV host Joey Fatone, rapper Coolio, singer Taylor Dayne and Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella. (Our early money is on Coolio, because of his web series Cookin’ with Coolio; some NSFW language if you follow the link).
The eight celebs will be divided into two teams with Ray and Fieri as their leaders. The debut episode will feature the teams cooking for an event for 150 people, who will then vote on the best and worst dishes. The bottom two competitors on the losing team will then compete head-to-head to remain in the competition.
Whoever wins “Celebrity Cook-Off” will earn $50,000 for the charity of his or her choice.
