Announcing a retirement of sorts from his TV home of the last 28 years back in Jan., Philbin now confirms that his last episode of “Live” will take place on Nov. 18. So you can expect a whole lot of reminiscing in these last two months.
Philbin, who recently turned 80, probably broke a few hearts when he broke the expected news with a little joke. “Last January I made the announcement that I’ll be moving on, but I never gave you an exact date,” he said. “So I’m pushing it back five years… Just kidding!”
Viewers thinking the announcement might come partnered with another tidbit where quickly put straight. “Live” has not settled on a replacement for Philbin, and co-host Ripa will be trying out candidates on air, much as Philbin did when former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford departed in July 2000.
As for Philbin’s post-Nov. plans, the veteran TV personality continues to insist he’s not completely retiring. “Don’t worry,” he says. “The show goes on.”
