An 8-year-old boy turns up, seemingly out of nowhere, in a field in China. An immigration agent learns where the boy lives and brings him home to his parents — who believe their son died more than 30 years ago.
Yet here he is, looking just the same as he did the last day he was alive.
That’s the jumping-off point for ABC’s new series “Resurrection.” The drama stars Omar Epps (“House”) as the immigration agent, Martin Bellamy, and Kurtwood Smith (“That ’70s Show”) and Frances Fisher (“Eureka,” “Titanic”) as Harold and Lucille Garland, the parents of the suddenly alive again Jacob (Landon Gimenez). The Garlands won’t be the only residents of their Missouri town to have this kind of experience — other people’s loved ones soon start to return as well.
“Resurrection” is based on the novel “The Returned” by Jason Mott and was adapted by “Damages” and “The Killing” writer Aaron Zelman. The series also stars Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Nicholas Gonzalez and Mark Hildreth. It’s currently scheduled to premiere in early 2014.
