Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora‘s “personal issues” have caused him to skip out on the first leg of the band’s upcoming “Because We Can” tour.
“Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg. All shows will go on as scheduled,” a statement on Bon Jovi’s website reads.
Sambora is one of Bon Jovi’s founding members. He will be missing out on the band’s 14-stop United States and Canadian tour, which starts in Edmonton, Alberta on April 3. The tour ends less than a month later on April 25 in San Jose, Calif. No word yet on whether Sambora will return to tour with Bon Jovi after that date. The “Because We Can” tour continues in Europe, South America and South Africa before returning to the United States in October.
This isn’t the first time Sambora has had to take a break from touring with Bon Jovi for his own personal problems. In 2011, he missed out on 13 tour dates to seek treatment for alcoholism. It has not been revealed if it’s struggles with addiction that drove Sambora to sit this tour out. TMZ claims that Sambora’s departure came after money disputes with Jon Bon Jovi and because the band’s frontman “constantly belittles Richie.” “It’s a classic Jagger/Richards blowup,” a source says.
