Bunsen, of course, was the German chemist responsible for the invention of the Bunsen burner. His revolutionary laboratory heaters still assist in experiments in labs and high schools today.
He lived to the ripe old age of 88 — but had he defied mortality completely, he would be 200 years old today. He was born Mar. 31, 1811.
