The finale of WGN America’s supernatural drama “Salem” will be both satisfying and infuriating for fans who have followed the show about the Salem witch trials: The last episode of Season 1 will touch on pretty much every main character’s storyline — but they’ll much end with a cliffhanger, so you’re going to have to wait a long time to see how the new twists shake out.
“This finale we’re very excited about because its a culmination of all the stories that have been building throughout the season and the emotional strands,” executive producer Brannon Braga tells reporters on a call ahead of the episode. “What’s really cool is it’s kind of like five cliffhangers in the body of one episode.”
That means you’ll have some resolutions to the storylines between Mary and John, between Cotton and Increase, some revelations about what’s happening with Mercy Lewis, with Anne Hale — pretty much everyone. “It’s pretty packed,” says Braga.
Adds star Shane West, “We leave so many stories open-ended, and if you’re a fan of the show in general you’re going to be excited to see what happens to all these characters in the finale.”
And yes — unfortunately, not every character will survive. “With a show like this you just never know who’s going to make it,” Braga says. But even though some characters’ lives will be hanging in the balance, not everyone who appears to be on the brink of death will actually pass on. “I think there are still question marks at the end of this season as to what’s going to happen [to some characters].”
The “Salem” Season 1 finale airs Sunday (July 13) at 10 p.m. ET on WGN America.
