Actress Sally Kirkland was rushed to the hospital this past weekend after taking a terrible fall at a Los Angeles film festival. The spill left the Academy Award-nominated actress with a broken leg, reports TMZ.
Kirland was making her way to the stage at the Studio City Film Festival to receive an award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Short when she fell and broke her leg in two places. She also dislocated her ankle. A rep for the actress says Kirkland blames poor lighting in the theater.
An ambulance rushed Kirkland to a nearby hospital and she underwent emergency surgery to repair her leg with a metal plate and screws. She remains under a doctor’s supervision.
Her rep says in a statement to TMZ, “Currently suffering from extreme pain, Sally
remains hospitalized following a successful surgery to repair the
injuries resulting from her fall. Despite the circumstances, Sally is in
good spirits and is optimistic about her recovery.”
Kirkland has appeared in “Felicity,” “JFK,” series “Valley of the Dolls” and “The Agency.” She was nominated for an Oscar in 1987 for “Anna.”
