Harris revealed the news to People.com on Wednesday (April 9). “It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest,” Harris says in the interview. “I was sick of feeling the way that I did in the days after the diagnosis. I knew I needed to take control.”
The diagnosis of breast cancer came after the 40-year-old TV personality detected a lump in her right breast. She saw a cancer specialist within a few months and was diagnosed with breast cancer. With two main treatment options available — a double mastectomy or a lumpectomy followed by radiation — Harris has decided to go with the former.
“I felt so much calmer,” she says of the decision.
In addition to hosting more than 150 episodes of “Dancing with the Stars,” Harris has appeared on “Entertainment Tonight,” “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and more.
