“The weather changed in a matter of minutes and the stage collapsed in a matter of seconds,” says singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles about Saturday (Aug. 13) night’s stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair that claimed the lives of five people. “We are shocked and saddened by this horribly tragic circumstance and we are all praying for those affected.”
The disaster happened after Bareilles performed her opening act, but before the headliners of the evening — Sugarland — went on stage.
Already having shared her feelings on Twitter, in a statement to the New York Daily News, Bareilles says the whole experience “felt like a bad dream,” but reports that emergency response was “incredibly fast,” along with the show crew that pitched in to help.
“My heart aches for the lives lost or injured as well as their families,” Bareilles says. “We will do whatever we possibly can to help heal the hurt from this very sad day.”
