Sarah Michelle Gellar is not feeling the new Kimye Vogue cover.
Shortly after the April cover of the venerable fashion mag, featuring lighting rods for controversy (and derision) Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, was revealed on Friday (March 21), the “Crazy Ones” star took to Twitter to throw some major shade.
“Well…..I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription,” Gellar writes. ‘Who is with me???”
Gellar’s tweet earned many a supportive response, but not everyone shared the artist formerly known as Buffy Summers’ sentiment. Jonathan Cheban, Kardashian’s BFF, fired back at the actress, retweeting her message while asking, “Do u matter?”
Perhaps anticipating such a negative response to the cover, Vogue editor Anna Wintour issued a pre-emptive defense of her decision in her Editor’s Letter, as reported by Us Weekly.
“As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancee on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort,” she writes.
“Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.”
