“Saturday Night Live” announced Saturday night (April 14) that the May 5 host would be New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, with musical guest Rihanna. Will Manning join the ranks of professional athletes who can’t exactly find the funny on “SNL”? Or will he live up to his big brother’s hosting appearance.
On May 25, 2007 Peyton Manning hosted “SNL,” coming off his only Super Bowl win with the Indianapolis Colts. In a pleasant surprise, his episode turned out to be hilarious. There was the infamous fake United Way commercial (“Spend time with your kids. So Peyton Manning doesn’t”), his awkward locker room dance skit, the bizarre-yet-funny sketch where he and Kristen Wiig said absurd things, like Peyton danced with the dog the other night.
Overall, a great success, especially when compared to how other athletes have fared on the show. So, will Eli be more on par with the other athletes, or can he bring the humor and charm like his brother?
Oh, and will we see a Peyton cameo? We certainly hope so.
