As the Season 3 premiere of “Scandal” came to a close on Thursday (Oct 3), Shonda Rhimes and Co. dropped a new bomb on the faithful Gladiators watching breathlessly at home. Well, several, actually, but only one left us asking the most questions: Just what happened during Operation Remington?
In the final moments of the episode, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) was taken at gunpoint to Rowan (Joe Morton), where he was shown the un-redacted truth behind Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Jake’s (Scott Foley) mission in Iran. With the audience kept in the dark, all we were left with was Cyrus’ stunned reaction: “Oh. My. God.”
Speaking to TVLine, Rhimes says that Remington will be a bigger threat to Fitz’s future than anything he’s ever faced before. “It’s complex,” she says, adding, “You discover things on top of things on top of things that really go to the heart of who Olivia [Kerry Washington] is as a person.” Cue the record scratch — Olivia is involved in this too?
Obviously, Rhimes is keeping mum on just how She Who Wears The White Hat is ultimately at the center of Remington (though, isn’t Olivia ultimately at the center of everything on this show?), but Foley offered the website this tease: “If you think about the darkest thing you can imagine about Olivia, it’s probably that. That’s how dark Remington is.”
Is it next Thursday yet?
“Scandal” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
