Scarlett Johansson is a popular movie star. Matthew McConaughey is a popular movie star. But that doesn’t mean they have any chemistry together — especially when it comes to Dolce & Gabanna’s newish perfume ad for “The One.”
Not only is there no sense of why these two are supposed to be “The One” for each other, but their banter actually makes it seem like they’re destined for a breakup. When it comes to making sure two actors click in terms of sensuality, more brands should check out this Gucci Guilty ad with Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood for pointers.
But ScarJo and McConaughey are far from the only celebs to create an awful perfume ad. Check out some of the other worst ones to make it to television below.
Britney Spears ‘Radiance’ commercial
Britney Spears’ ads for her very successful perfumes range from great to bizarre, but there’s something just so hokey about “Radiance.” Her acting is laughable at best, and the fortune teller plot line? Don’t get us started.
Emma Watson Lancome Tresor Midnight Rose ad
It’s really hard to dislike anything Emma Watson does, but this Lancome commercial for the Tresor Midnight Rose perfume is so cheesy it gives us a stomach ache. Maybe the company was trying to go for a “Perks of Being a Wallflower” ’80s vibe, but it just doesn’t work. Fortunately Watson has a whole slew of other great Lancome ads.
Lady Gaga ‘Fame’ commercial
Lady Gaga, we love you, but this ad was horrifyingly creepy well before a bunch of tiny men started climbing all over your naked body. This might help sell the Mother Monster brand, but is not great for a perfume commercial.
Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom ‘Unbreakable’ ad
The irony of this commercial aside, there’s nothing we want to see less than Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom rubbing themselves naked all over one another to sell a unisex perfume. The only thing that makes this ad a little more bearable is pretending Kris Jenner is the one behind the camera, because you know she was pushing for her daughter to get out there with her hubby and make this.
Brad Pitt Chanel No. 5 commercial
It’s hard to top this Brad Pitt ad for its level of celebrity awfulness in a perfume commercial. From his hair to his delivery to the boring nature of the spot, nothing about this works. And sorry to all you Pitt fans out there, but he’s just not at the point in his career anymore where putting his face on something makes it a must-have.
