The Church of Scientology has responded to Leah Remini’s tell-all interview with Buzzfeed and, as can be expected, the response is not pretty. A representative from the Church spoke with Us Weekly and says Remini’s claim she left the religious group because of her 9-year-old daughter Sofia is not accurate.
“It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt by rewriting her history with it, including omitting that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled for her ethical lapses,” the rep says.
Among Remini’s anti-Scientology comments in the interview, she said the Church is full of judgmental hypocrites and said she didn’t want to force her daughter to be indoctrinated like she was at a young age.
“In my house, it’s family first — but I was spending most of my time at the Church,” she admitted. “So, I was saying ‘family first,’ but I wasn’t showing that. I didn’t like the message that sent my daughter.”
Remini very publicly left the Church of Scientology back in July 2013. Since then, there’s been nothing but bad blood between the former “King of Queens” star and the religious organization.
