Country singer Scotty McCreery and some of his friends were victims of a home-invasion robbery in Raleigh, N.C. early Monday (May 5).
The “American Idol” Season 10 winner was visiting friends at an apartment complex near North Carolina State University (where McCreery is a student) when three men armed with guns broke in about 2 a.m., WTVD-TV reports. They demanded McCreery and his friends lie on the floor and took their cash, wallets and electronic items before leaving.
“They were like ‘Get down. Get on the floor and give us everything you got,'” says a caller on the 911 tape released by Raleigh police. It’s unclear if McCreery or someone else was the caller, as under North Carolina law voices are distorted in publicly released 911 recordings.
No one was hurt in the robbery, which neighbors describe to WTVD as lasting about five minutes.
McCreery has released three albums, all of which have charted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, since winning “American Idol” in 2011. He’s finishing up his sophomore year at N.C. State in between tour dates.
