Viewers will get a sense of how Seth MacFarlane will serve as an Oscars host prior to him actually hosting the Academy Awards. It has been announced that he and Emma Stone will read off this year’s Oscar nominees on Jan. 10.
The last time an Oscars host also announced the nominees for that year’s Academy Awards was in 1972 when Charlton Heston went on double duty. Based on MacFarlane and Stone’s comedic backgrounds, this time the announcement ceremony will likely include a few more jokes than when Heston held it.
“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” MacFarlane said in a statement after he was announced as Oscars host. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast.”
The nominations will be read at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 10. The Oscars are going to be held on Feb 24.
