The monologue was just OK. You’d think after all the years of telling jokes like these for “Weekend Update” that it would’ve been a little stronger, but maybe it was just today’s material that wasn’t great.
The comedy bit before the guests came out was funny. It was called “Venn Diagrams,” which presented two things and then showed how they overlapped like: “Snow” and “toilet paper” overlapped as “things you won’t find in Sochi” and “Russia” and “the NBA” overlapped as “places that are more gay-friendly than Arizona.”
Above, Meyers shares a picture of when he and Amy started at “Saturday Night Live” together in 2001. It’s hilarious and they are adorable together, plus Poehler cracks that she and bandleader Fred Armisen used to be “turbulent lovers.” Hee! And of course, Joe Biden is always fun.
Overall, it was a decent start. Meyers did all right, and it’ll be interesting to watch the show find its sea legs. Video below.
