The news comes from an interview with Britain’s Telegraph published on Sunday (June 29). Freeman first indicates that “Sherlock” production could resume in early 2015 — saying it “looks pretty likely” at that time. When questioned further about what is coming in the hugely popular mystery series, Freeman offers a prediction with reservations.
“If that’s going to be a special — I’m speaking off message … I think that might be for next Christmas,” he says. “A Christmas special. That’s what I understand.”
This is both good news and bad news for “Sherlock” fans. Any sort of return date is a plus, but the Christmas special also indicates that audiences might have to wait even longer for a full Season 4.
Neither the BBC nor U.S. broadcaster PBS has made any announcement about a “Sherlock” return date.
