Unless you’re in the Tea Party, you probably caught a bad case of second-hand mortification from Donald Trump as he demanded President Obama’s birth certificate or when he descended into Twitter madness following the election. Now, over 500,000 people have signed a petition urging high-end retailer Macy’s to end its association with Trump.
Citing Trump’s pattern of “sexism, bigotry, and vitriol,” petition organizer Angelo Carusone notes that Trump is in violation of the Macy’s social responsibility policy. The policy reads, “There is no shortage of talk about the obligation of public companies to be socially responsible to the people and communities where they do business. At Macy’s, Inc., we hold those same beliefs – along with a belief that actions speak louder than words when it comes to helping tackle some of the toughest problems facing us today.”
Carusone, who successfully organized the StopBeck efforts that contributed to pushed Glenn Beck off the air, attests that Trump is one such tough problem. “Actions do speak louder than words. And, by continuing to promote Trump, Macy’s is failing to live up to its own standards,” he says. “If I stood inside a Macy’s store and said the things that Trump has said, security would escort me out. This is about taking away the system of perverse incentives that rewards Donald Trump for continued outbursts of sexism, bigotry and just plain meanness.”
Macy’s is the exclusive distributor of Trump’s clothing line and fragrance — yes, apparently, people are willing to spend money to smell like Trump.
Do you agree with the petition, which insists that Trump’s “birther” conspiracy, history of sexism, and denial of climate change is “unpleasant, nasty, and despicable bahavior”? Weigh in below in our comments section!
