After the death of Clay (Ron Perlman) in “Aon Rud Persanta,” “Sons of Anarchy” still has a ways to go before there will be any peace. “You Are My Sunshine” took things to an even deeper level of blood, all in an attempt to make things right.
The first issue finds Nero (Jimmy Smits) as uneasy as ever over his deal with SAMCRO. He just wants to run his growing brothel empire, but partnering with a violent club isn’t exactly helping. In fact, a returning Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) reaches out on behalf of the Mayans to let Nero know that his club is setting up shop in Stockton and partnering with the Chinese, to oppose the Irish, the club and August Marks (Billy Brown), leaving Nero and his gang, the Byz Lats, in a difficult position. Lines are being drawn between races and the Lats are concerned Nero is too involved with SAMCRO.
However, that little deal might not work out regardless. Jax’s (Charlie Hunnam) plan goes far deeper than any viewer could have realized. He has the club kill off a couple of the remaining Irish and steal their guns, framing it like the Chinese was seeking retribution for Galen (Timothy V. Murphy) opening fire on them.
However, when SAMCRO “delivers” the highest-ranking IRA member in the area in exchange for Happy (David Labrava), the Sons gun them all down, saving the Irish. Now the Chinese are heavily-damaged and at a disadvantage, making it easy for Marks and the Irish to get a foothold in the gun trade throughout California.
Meanwhile, Juice (Theo Rossi) is in a very scary frame of mind. When Bobby (Mark Boone Junior) suggests he take a little Oxycontin and go to Deosa for a little female companionship, he overdoses in the bathroom. After Gemma (Katey Sagal) and Nero empty his stomach, he confesses to Nero that he gave the school shooter’s mom the deadly drug overdose, something Jax said she did to herself. When Nero finds out Jax lied to him about it, he looks broken. Partnering with the Mayans is looking like a smarter idea by the minute.
It’s Tara (Maggie Siff) who has the biggest moments in the episode, though. Tara has been all over the map in Season 6. She faked a pregnancy and a miscarriage, making herself an enemy of the club, which is a weird position to be in when you’re also the president’s wife.
D. A. Patterson (CCH Pounder) is ready to give Tara the deal that will put her in witness protection and she seems to be going for it, even though she’s still confused about her love for Jax. In the end she fools everyone by taking her kids and running, without the protection or immunity deals. In the process she tricks Gemma, pulls a gun on Unser (Dayton Callie) and backhands Wendy (Drea de Matteo). So yeah, big week for her.
While she hides away in a motel room somewhere, with her boys, Jax is livid, convinced she ratted on the club in exchange for witness protection. He comes unglued, thrashing his son’s bedroom, before Nero arrives. When he walks into the room, there is rage written all over his face, after learning about Jax’s betrayal. However, when he sees what’s happened to the president, he comforts him almost like a father would.
With one episode left in Season 6, there’s plenty of loose ends that will likely find explosive conclusions. After all, the first time Jax lost a kid, he went to the ends of the earth to get him back. That was only one son. Who knows what Tara is in store for now? Beyond that, there is going to be a lot that needs to be settled between Nero and Jax, especially now that the Mayans are surely going to be upset over what happened to the Chinese.
