space mountain closed gi Space Mountain and Matterhorn closed by Disneyland for safety review

Visitors to the Disneyland Resorts in Anaheim, Cal. were surprised to find three well-known rides closed Saturday (April 13). The resort had temporarily closed two keys rides in the Disneyland park, and one in Disney’s California Adventure, after receiving citations from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, according to the Associated Press.
In Disneyland, Space Mountain and the Matterhorn Bobsleds were closed, while Disney’s California Adventure shuttered Soarin’ Over California. Resort spokeswoman Suzi Brown says the closures were voluntary, as the company reviewed employee safety protocols.
“We constantly strive to maintain a safe work environment for our cast members and contractors — and we are reviewing certain protocols,” Brown says. The citations stems from an incident in November when a contractor was injured on the exterior of Space Mountain, while performing maintenance.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds reopened Sunday (April 14), however Brown says it is not clear how long Space Mountain, which first opened in 1977, and Soarin’ Over California will remain closed.
