Starz has officially begun the process of re-casting “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” star Andy Whitfield, who gracefully bowed out of the role to fight an ongoing battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
The network’s CEO Chris Albrecht considered canceling the series after the six-episode prequel airs beginning in January, but reports now say that producers have officially put out a casting notice for the title role of Spartacus.
The notice calls for a Caucasian male with an authentic British accent, in his mid- to late-30s. While we’re sad to see Whitfield go, and we can’t imagine that he’ll be easily replaced, we’re sure he’s glad to know that the show will go on.
