Now that we’ve established The CW’s “Star-Crossed” is much more political sci-fi thriller than teen romance, we can talk about how juicy the story starts to get in episode 3, “Our Toil Shall Strive to Mend.” Tensions are still high between the humans and the Atrians as Emery, Julia, Lukas and co. enter the Atrian sector for the first time.
Star Greg Finley tells Zap2it that his character, Drake, in particular is not pleased with their presence. “Drake, he ain’t got no love for the humans and he doesn’t see why Roman is being so understanding to these humans and so peaceful, especially after his father’s death,” he says. “He doesn’t get all that Emery stuff because he doesn’t know about it yet. All he knows is pain.”
Drake’s unresolved anger may cause him to seek out friends with slightly less sympathy for the humans than Roman and co. “He’s not so much trying to end humanity; he’s more trying to get his freedom and he’s willing to go to great lengths to get it. But maybe he’s not willing to go as far as people might think,” Finley says.
He’s intimidating with possible anger issues, but who wouldn’t be angry after being locked up for most of his life? “He’s not a bad person,” Finley says. “All he wants is what’s right for his people. He doesn’t want to hurt and kill anybody for it, he just wants what everybody wants for their people, and that’s freedom.”
As the weeks go on we’ll see a softer side to Drake, which might be brought out in part thanks to a new lady in his life. “Drake gets a love interest,” Finley teases. “It’s very hot and heavy; it’s very physical. There could be some scenes in a bathroom and in a locker room that people might like to watch.”
Something else that should be on your radar: Drake is one of the five characters who get shirtless in episode 3, in case that’s something you might be interested in.
“I have the right to be shirtless in my scene because I’m training,” says Finley. “There’s nothing wrong with two guys training shirtless, right? A couple of aliens training shirtless, no big deal.”
It isn’t really, considering this is The CW we’re talking about. It’s kind of their thing. Says Finley with a laugh, “You know what? I’m not going to be young forever. I might as well go shirtless as much as I can.”
Humanity thanks him for it.
“Star-Crossed” airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
