This is more casting news coming out for “Star Trek 2.” According to Deadline, British hottie Benedict Cumberbatch is about to join the cast, which includes all the main characters from the last film, as well as Alice Eve in an as yet unidentified role.
Don’t recognize the name Benedict Cumberbatch? You will soon. He’s been landing all sorts of plum roles lately. Cumberbatch just starred in the Spielberg film “War Horse” and the best selling novel-based “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” He plays the lead role in the BBC television series “Sherlock,” and he’ll play a motion capture Smaug the Dragon and voice the Necromancer in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
Sounds like this guy is one to watch! No word yet on whether or not he’ll be a hero or a villain, but he’s sure to be compelling, whoever he plays. As we reported earlier, there will be no cast members from the earlier “Star Trek” films. As you recall, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) appeared in the last film. “Star Trek 2” is looking at a release date of May 17, 2013.
