steven spielberg the grapes of wrath gi Steven Spielberg in talks to remake 'The Grapes of Wrath'

Do people still complain about remakes if Steven Spielberg is the man behind them? That’s a question that will have to be answered if the legendary director and DreamWorks can come to terms with the estate of John Steinbeck over the film rights to “The Grapes of Wrath.”
Deadline reports that Spielberg is going after the rights, with the intent to produce a remake of the 1940 film, based on the book. He wasn’t the only one looking to acquire the book, either. Robert Redford was interested in it, hoping to put together a miniseries on FX. Once Spielberg showed up with his intention to make a feature film though, that went right out the window.
This isn’t the first time the “Jaws” and “ET: The Extraterrestrial” director has tried his hand at a remake. He announced in 2009 that he would be directing a new version of “Harvey,” the 1950 film starring James Stewart. He later dropped out from the film, after speaking to Tom Hanks and Robert Downey, Jr. about taking on the lead role.
