Bruno Mars has officially been announced as the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLVIII, after a source leaked the news Saturday (Sept. 7). The announcement was made live on FOX before the kickoff of the first NFL Sunday games of the 2013 season.
“It’s just an honor. We just
got off tour, so being able to come to New York City and announce this
right now — it’s incredible. We celebratin’ for sure,” says Mars, during the live announcement.
When asked if he’ll have any surprises in store, Mars teases, “I mean, it’s five months from now, so I got a couple of phone calls to make. … It’s gonna be good, man. It’s gonna be good.”
Mars joins an impressive group of recent Super Bowl halftime performers, including The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Prince, Paul McCartney, Beyonce and Madonna.
Super Bowl XLVII will air live from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. Mars and his band The Hooligans are currently on a world tour promoting his sophomore album, “Unorthodox Jukebox.”
